Christmas is our busiest time of year, and a lot of beautiful, often delicate product passes through our stockrooms. We are looking for an organised, careful and reliable person to help us keep it moving smoothly from the delivery van to the shop floor and out to our online customers.
JOB BRIEF
As Seasonal Stockroom Assistant you will be primarily responsible for receiving, checking, counting and processing incoming deliveries, keeping our stockrooms organised, and making sure the shop floor and our website are always well stocked with accurate stock levels. You will work closely with the management team, buyers, and sales staff across all three stores.
The role begins part-time to help us prepare for the season and moves to full-time as deliveries and trading pick up through November and December. You will have a keen eye for detail, a methodical approach to counting and checking stock, and an appreciation for good design and the care our products deserve.
KEY SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
- Previous experience in a stockroom, warehouse or retail back-of-house role is strongly preferred
- Experience receiving deliveries and checking stock against delivery notes, purchase orders and invoices
- Accurate counting and experience assisting with stock takes
- Meticulous attention to detail and a tidy, organised way of working
- Confident, careful handling of fragile and high-value items such as ceramics, glassware, lighting and furniture
- Comfortable using a stock management or POS system; experience with Shopify or similar would be an advantage
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel
- Physically able to lift, carry and move stock safely; a manual handling certificate would be an advantage
- Self-motivated and able to work on your own initiative, while being a supportive team player
- Calm and dependable under pressure during peak trading
- Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English is essential
- An interest in good design, homeware or lifestyle brands
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast paced environment
RESPONSIBILITIES
Receiving and checking deliveries
- Receive incoming deliveries, check carton numbers against courier paperwork and sign for goods
- Unpack, count and check all stock as it arrives against delivery notes and purchase orders, confirming quantities, product codes and condition
- Record and promptly report any shortages, overages, incorrect items or damages to management and the buyers, photographing damaged goods for supplier claims
- Process deliveries on our stock management system so that stock levels in store and online are always accurate
Stock preparation and replenishment
- Ensure all stock is correctly priced, labelled and tagged before it reaches the shop floor
- Replenish the shop floor in HOME, LIFE and KIDS/Barn so displays are always full and at their best
- Move and transfer stock between our three stores as required, recording transfers accurately
Stockroom organisation
- Keep all stockrooms clean, safe, tidy and logically organised so any item can be found quickly
- Manage overflow and storage space during peak season, rotating stock as needed
- Break down packaging and manage recycling and waste
Stock control
- Assist with regular stock counts and the year-end stock take
- Flag low stock, fast sellers and discrepancies to management
- Prepare and process supplier returns and damaged goods
Online orders and seasonal support
- Pick, pack, gift wrap and dispatch online orders accurately and on time, including our Christmas gift orders
- Support the sales, café and office teams when required, including on the shop floor during peak periods
- Follow all company policies and procedures, including health and safety and safe manual handling
- Act as a brand ambassador for Industry & Co. in your behaviour and outlook at all times
